From FP&A
to Finance BI
Bridging the gap between finance, data,
and technology for over two decades.
PROFILE
Welcome! I’m Sven Tapp, an independent consultant specializing in Finance BI — an enhanced version of FP&A that blends finance, data, and technology to empower and enable finance operations.
Over the past two decades, my career has been rooted in FP&A, spanning industries and continents. From managing a profit center in Japan’s bustling direct marketing sector to shaping strategy in Canada’s telecommunications and video gaming industries, my work has centered around financial planning and analysis. While I performed conventional FP&A tasks, my determination to enhance planning with intelligence and improve productivity led me to data and systems.
After graduate school, I took on my first leadership role in Japan, managing a small profit center where I encountered a persistent challenge: the lack of actionable information to guide my decisions. Frustrated but determined, I began analyzing data and creating data assets to aid me in running this team. This hands-on experience sparked my fascination with the power of good intelligence on financial management. It also caught the attention of the CEO, leading to my first opportunity to establish and build a business intelligence team.
In three of the four major companies in my career, I created and led teams from scratch, always focusing on bridging gaps between financial planning, data, and systems. My FP&A foundation gave me a deep understanding of financial analysis and decision support, but I realized early on that powerful FP&A work required augmenting those skills with data analytics and technology. This realization shaped my career and drives my passion today.
What sets me apart is my ability to translate complex data into insights that are both actionable and meaningful. I don’t just implement technology — I assess business needs to identify the most appropriate solution (people, processes, or platforms) to deliver real value. Having been a business leader myself, I understand the challenges leaders face and approach FP&A work and projects with a focus on practical outcomes and human impact.
Let’s explore how Finance BI can create value for your organization.
