Implementing Microsoft SSRS BI system
TELUS Business Solutions relied on a centralized corporate data warehouse originally designed for TELUS Consumer Solutions. This system was poorly suited for enterprise account analysis, as it failed to group individual devices under enterprise accounts and inaccurately tracked sales by channel. As a result, weekly performance reports took an entire day to prepare, delaying delivery to leadership until Tuesday mornings.
To resolve these inefficiencies, Sven designed a new data warehouse architecture tailored specifically to the needs of the Business Solutions division. Leading the BI team, they developed a reporting system on Microsoft SQL Server that consolidated device data into enterprise accounts and corrected inaccuracies in sales channel tracking. The system introduced a self-service analytical layer, empowering marketing and sales teams to access data directly, reducing their reliance on the BI team.
The new system automated report generation, enabling delivery by 9 AM on Monday mornings, improving both timeliness and accuracy. These efficiencies allowed the BI team to reduce its size from five to four analysts while significantly increasing productivity and reducing overtime. For his innovative leadership, Sven was honored with the TELUS Pinnacle Award, recognizing his "courage to innovate" and his contribution to transforming enterprise performance reporting.
